Updates.. Hmm, nothing to update much again.. Well, there is one thing that is updateable. Lets see.. It was something that I just realised that this happened also. 1 November came and passed.. 1 November is exactly 1 year! One year since that I have been in Customware. Woohoo!! Probation came and gone. Achieving support levels came and went even faster!!

To Clarence, 1 year came and pass. Blek!

Where’s The System Admin..

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Yea, so where’s the system administrator when you need one?!? Shared my support work time fiddling with our server at office.

Atlantis rolled over and died last week.. I’m now trying to raise if from the dead.. Sounds catchy eh?!? Being the support engineer, slightly a mentor and mostly a system administrator has really taken a toll on me today. Standing in a server room is never a fun thing to do.. Especially when the keyboard and the monitor is weirdly configured..

Oh well, it’s part of a very big learning process on how to setup a server for people to use. Learned something today also. I was struggling on how to set $JAVA_HOME globally. I’ve always set my desktop’s $JAVA_HOME at ~/.bashrc which is not a good method of doing so. Googling taught me to set it at /etc/bash.bashrc.

What else.. What else..

Well, here’s something that would put a smile on your face:

It’s been quite a month for me.

  1. Fixing lights & fans in church.. Also includes mosquito feeding as the work went into the evening & night..
  2. CC’s Wedding
  3. Welcoming new staff
  4. Halloween Party
  5. Work work work!!!

But the most important one of all! He’s finally arrived!!

Found this at The Daily WTF. Since I’ve started supporting this product, this has gotta be the most hilarious stuff I’ve seen in a while.

Updates..

Guess it’s about time that I sit down and do an update again!  For the past week, the goal at work was to reach the next support level which I am but two points away! Seesh.. How tough is it to get those points.. Work for this week was largely scarce. Most of the people in office are off in conjunction with the Hari Raya holidays. Did have to do the night shift work on Monday as one was on leave and another one on medical leave. 1st day of Hari Raya was spent at church installing fans, lights and wire trunking from 10AM till 9.30PM. Hiding wires is not fun!! Neither is it fun to do it outdoors at 7PM when mosquitoes are taking pot-shots at your leg.. Buggers..

Swapping to Ubuntu on my home desktop has caused me two specific problems:

1. Unable to hear any audio from Flash + Firefox which equals to ultimate stress. Checking out my solutions did not work. Removing and reinstalling Firefox and the Flash plugins did not help. But suddenly this morning, things started to work with libflashsupport, flashplugin-nonfree and a few tweeks to System > Preferences > Sound.

2. Utopia Angel will not run on Wine. Now this one, I do not have the means and the expertise to even comprehend on how to fix it.. Dammit. Why the hell does everything have to be built for Windows..

New stuff for this week and last month:

Dell Multimedia Keyboard
Dell Multimedia Keyboard

1. Dell Multimedia Keyboard

Ubuntu
Ubuntu

2. Ubuntu OS on desktop

Brisingr (Book)
Brisingr (Book)

3. Brisingr - The latest book to the Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini

4. Something bigger and better than all that I had ever owned. Stay tuned!!

Updates..

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Gosh, it really has been a while since I last updated this blog with real updates! The past two weeks include alot of JIRA component points (work), working with Jonathan from Sydney and quite a number of outings with my colleagues including break-fast day and different nights where we went out for dinner. These are some of the pictures that were taken!

Cuteness!! Hehehe. Her name is Selena. :)

The two guys from Sydney. Jason and Jonathan all the way to help us in our team and help us push our stats.

These two weeks also include having 2 nightshift nights. :) Again working the nightshifts is a tougher job but the environment which it is being done with is very much easier. Quiet.. Peace.. Switching some of the lights down after working hours helps in the productivity. Turning the air-condition on. Ahh!! Makes thinking of cases very much easier and faster! Anything else.. Hmm..
